A new exhibition of Del Hall color and b/w photos at 3rd Coast Cafe begins today.
This is an exhibit of many new photographs, printed and shown here for the first time. For example, there is a photo of John Patrick Cody, Cardinal of Chicago, pausing in the doorway of the old North American College in Rome, where he once studied for the priesthood #26.
There is a shot inside Saint Peter's Basillica during the opening session of Vatican II, called to modernize the church by Pope John XXIII, on the altar. #31 Four future Popes were in the assembly that morning, October 11, 1962.
Self Portrait Numbe One #80, is a shot dedicated to LIFE Magazine and its occasional behind the scenes feature to show what it took to make a particular photo story. My shot showed what was required to film a 16mm documentary in Rome and Vatican II. An enlarged contact sheet of three different poses of this shot, is hung along the starway. The driver, Thomosso, had to get his cap before posing for the shots.
Look for JFK, LBJ, and Walter Cronkite in Moscow. The color portraits include a young model, Georgia Mae Jagger, the Chicago walking man, and friends, Jeff Perry and Terry Kinney, founders of Steppenwolf Theatre.
In the upper gallery, artist Anish Kapoor, is reflected in his sculpture, Cloudgate, better known as the "Bean" in Millenium Park #100.
Many of these photographs have been recently acquired by the New Orleans Museum of Art. They are also in private and corporate collections.
Most of the b/w shots were made while I was on a television news assignment for New Orleans WWL, or CBS network news because I did, and still do carry my camera everywhere I go. As you can see, People are my favorite subject.
